Birds & Collagraphs

Happy New Year!

Before the holidays the 3/4s finished painting their birds which were then featured at the lovely winter concert! Some artists focused on creating realistic Vermont birds by using visual resources to guide their work. Others chose to create non-realistic or even stylized versions of their birds.

This week, we began a new project of creating collagraphs. A collagraph is a print created by applying ink or pigment to a collage made from cardboard and other stiff and textured materials. The 3/4 artists began exploring and creating their “plates” using cardboard scraps and other recycled materials. The next step is to cover the plates with a few coats of varnish to seal it before using them to make some prints!
