Literature Circles Begin in the 3/4 Class!

This week students in the 3/4 class began their journey into Literature Circles!  In conjunction with our Global Studies unit on the Middle Ages, the class is reading Castle Diary: The Journal of Tobias Burgess.  During their first week of Literature Circles students worked together in groups of three to closely read this quarter’s anchor text.  To prepare for their weekly literature circle meeting, group members read an agreed upon section of the text, searched for interesting vocabulary, considered open-ended discussion questions, and illustrated an important scene.

On Friday, equipped with the notes they prepared throughout the week, students met to discuss the book.  Literature Circles are a great opportunity for classroom peers to ask clarifying questions, share ideas, and collectively explore the world of the Middle Ages as described in Castle Diary.  Literature Circles will continue throughout this quarter as students continue to build a rich understanding of what life was like in medieval times.  Stay tuned!

Have a wonderful weekend,
