The steps that architects follow: using floor plans to build!

This week in STEM, the 3/4 continued learning about the steps that architects follow. Last week they built structures and learned how to draw floor plans with a scale. This week, they started with floor plans and a scale, and had to figure out how to build a house with three rooms of the correct dimensions! They used LEGOs to build. Through this activity they learned how to read a floor plan, interpret the scale, measure with rulers, and build according to the floor plan. Then, each group had to add a feature of medieval architecture to their building, including an arch and vault, gargoyles, a siege tower, and flying buttresses. Next week they will each choose a building from a medieval village, and start the architectural process to design their building!
